Faraha’s graduate placement update #2

successful graduate placementComputer Science graduate Faraha Malik joined Webroster on a six month placement as part of the Peterborough Graduate Scheme.  As the initial six month graduate placement draws to a close Faraha’s final update summarises her time with Webroster.

Welcome to my final blog at the end of my graduate placement

The six month placement at Webroster has been my first time in commercial environment after graduating.  It’s been a steep learning curve going from a student to working in a business, but I’ve been lucky to have a supportive development team to be working with.  As part of the Peterborough Graduate Scheme I’ve also had ongoing support from Change Agents UK who manage the scheme.

I have really enjoyed my time at Webroster, I’ve learned how to work with a team of experienced software developers and gained a lot of very useful experience.  I’ve not only built on my software programming skills but also developed my interpersonal skills and experience, learning to manage expectations and prioritising my workload have been key things I’ll take with me to my next role.  I’ve had to present and report on the work I’ve done, not only to my line manager but also to colleague and managers from other departments within the company.

I’ve worked with other departments such as marketing which is given me a broader understanding of the business and the product rather than just seeing the software development side.  I’m really excited to be staying on at Webroster as a Junior Software Developer and continuing to work on other projects in the future.
